How does live music work with both smaller and larger weddings?

Writer: Suzie LangtonSuzie Langton

You might be thinking, I have a wedding with only 20-30 people, surely live music won't work for that amount of people? Or how about, my wedding has between 100-150 people and the space is huge, I don't have enough budget to book a huge showband!

Both worries are valid, however both of these also have valid answers, so let me tell you how live music can work in both situations.

Smaller weddings - small numbers, or small venue

Smaller numbers doesn't mean you have to leave out elements such as live music, in fact having live music with smaller numbers means that you will probably have an even more intimate environment. I personally love singing for smaller weddings, as it gives me the opportunity to get to know you and your guests even more, and include them in the music, by getting up and dancing with them, and encouraging a good sing along too!

I recently performed at a wedding for just 24 people, and the vibe was just amazing! Everyone knew each other, the guests were so welcoming and friendly, and just wanted to have an amazing afternoon, and that's what we had! Check out the reel from this wedding here.

I can also alter the equipment I use to match the venue size as well, for example for a smaller venue I use a PA system called the EV, and it's a super small speaker, perfect for small spaces, but gives off the most incredible sound. The crisp and clear quality that this speaker can produce is just amazing, and perfect for creating both those intimate and emotional moments, but also to crank the volume up a little if your guests want a little more!

Larger weddings - large numbers, or large venue

If you have a large venue, and possibly larger numbers to go with this, then you might be wondering what the best option is for live music. There's a couple of directions you could go in, one of which is a showband - if you have the budget for these they are amazing, and will give you an amazing experience. However if you don't have £1,500-£2,000 just for your evening party, having a duo for the day might be the perfect option for you!

First of all, your ceremony will still warrant more of an emotional/intimate atmosphere, which can be created using the above system, however if the space is big, then our larger PA, called the HK, is the best one for the job. It has another crystal clear sound, but has the added bonus of something called a sub, which basically creates a super round and full sound, and ensures that the sound carries beautifully.

For your reception, this also works really well, as when the volume goes up the sound travels, without compromising on the quality. With some speakers if you push them too hard on the volume, the quality will decrease, but not with this system!

Finally, if you want a live band feel for your evening without the price tag, then our party duo works a treat. We can even double up on our HK's and bring both systems, so you have a really even sound (as the speakers will be either side of us, ensuring the one side of the room isn't deafened!), and the volume will be just right for the room, making sure that you won't be struggling to hear everyone if you're at the back, but you'll get the full party atmosphere everywhere else!

Our systems are also fully digital, meaning we can work to a decibel level too. For example if your venue has a sound limiter, we can set our mixer to not go above a certain level - meaning no squeaky bum moments for us worrying if we're getting too loud!

I also sing wirelessly, which means I can still interact with your audience without being tied to the spot at the front!
